Schools Project

RFN is dedicated to promoting awareness about mental health conditions in Pakistan using a multi-pronged approach. One of the primary ways through which we hope to achieve this is by working directly with schools. Schools are an essential part of children’s lives, with children spending over 30 hours per week in schools with their teachers and peers. Consequently, schools offer a unique opportunity to implement change on a large scale.

RFN is currently working to develop an awareness campaign for schools. For the first phase of the campaign, we are developing online sessions for teachers who teach up to grade 1. As role models, teachers play an essential role in creating awareness about the importance of mental health. More importantly, they are in a good position to support students' mental health.

In the future we are also hoping to design sessions and other resources that cater to other aspects of the school environment including parents and peers.

About the Teacher Sessions

These sessions aim to develop a better understanding of children’s mental health and psychological conditions. Moreover, we adopt an interactive approach to help teachers gain a diverse skill set so they are able to identify signs of children struggling and provide the right kind of support.

We offer different sessions on specific topics like children’s mental health, autism, ADHD, how to talk to parents about a child’s mental health, etc. If there is a topic that your school would like to be covered, we would be happy to design a session for that. Keeping in mind the rewarding yet exacting nature of teaching, we also have sessions that are designed to help teachers identify causes of burnout and provide them with tools and information to better support themselves.

Past Sessions

In April 2021, we successfully completed our introductory session with Education Bay School.

The session was successful in creating a safe space for teachers to discuss their concerns, find ways to help their students and create more supportive classrooms. In the future we are also hoping to design sessions and other resources that cater to other aspects of the school environment including parents and peers.
